Introducing the Student Loan Education Office

Welcome back to campus!
The start of a new school year always brings lots of excitement, a little anxiety and some change. We are please to share one of those changes for the 2014-2015 year with you. New this year is the debut of the Student Loan Education Office. The Student Loan Education Office is the result of a partnership between the Government of the Student Body (GSB) and the Office of Student Financial Aid.
The GSB and the Office of Student Financial Aid are both very excited to bring the office and our services to the Iowa State University community!
The mission of the Student Loan Education Office is to reduce the educational loan debt of Iowa State students while improving the overall financial health of the ISU student population. We will strive to achieve this mission through financial education and helping students understand how financing a degree at Iowa State will impact them now and in their future.
The Student Loan Education Office will offer in person one-on-one counseling to complete Entrance and Exit loan counseling, First Time Private Borrower counseling and discuss general understanding of loans and loan repayment. In addition to counseling students on their loans, we will also have staff available to discuss budgeting, money management and spending, credit and responsible use of credit and debt.
Coupled with our one-on-one counseling, we will also be available to present to classes, residence halls or other student organizations. We can present on topics including student loan basics from disbursement to repayment, money management/budgeting and credit.
We are also excited to start our Live Like a Student blog. Through this blog, we hope to share with you timely financial aid and personal finance tips from professionals as well as some blogs from a student’s perspective.
