With the allure of warm, sunny beaches in a faraway state, it can be tempting to book the next flight out of Iowa to escape cold temperatures. However, travel costs can add up quickly! Here are some ways to have fun during spring break, without breaking the bank.

Rest up

You just finished a strenuous week of midterm exams, so take some time to rest, reset, and rewind. It’s important to take care of yourself, and this is the perfect time to catch up on some Z’s. Want to binge watch a new tv show or try a new hobby? This is the time when you can sit down and take moments to do things you enjoy.

Bring the vacation to you

Be a tourist in your own hometown. Visit the places you’ve always driven past but have never stopped. Does your town have a unique landmark or claim to fame? Check it out and get to learn the history behind it.

Spend some quality time with friends and family

There’s no better way to spend a vacation than with friends and family. Catch up with your loved ones, especially if you don’t get to see them very often.

If you still want to go on a vacation, here are some ways you can save:

  • Stay with someone you know
If you know someone who lives in the location where you are traveling, it doesn’t hurt to ask if you can stay with them. It’s a win-win situation if you can catch up with an old friend AND save money.
  • Check all the options beforehand
Check if a flight out of a different location is cheaper than your starting or ending destination area. Calculate the cost of driving rather than flying. It could make a big difference and potentially save you hundreds of dollars.
