Background
This year has been a crazy year when it comes to applying for aid! FAFSA opening on the last day of 2023 and deadline extensions are just a few issues that many encountered these last couple months. Thankfully, we are here today to inform you on the most up to date information!
Federal Student Aid (FSA), a part of the Education Department, revamped the FAFSA in order to make it more user friendly. By doing so, FSA had to postpone the typical opening date of October 1 to December 31. They ran into a few issues, most common being crashed servers, and have had to delay sending information to higher education institutions. Therefore, Iowa State University, along with all other universities and colleges in the nation, are currently waiting on FAFSA information from FSA. We are working our hardest to accommodate people continuing to have issues and complications! If you are having issues filing, please contact our Office of Student Financial Aid.
Current Information
At the time of this article, colleges were recently informed by FSA that they will not be sending FAFSA information to them until closer to the middle of March. Until then, families are unable complete FAFSA appeal forms through Iowa State, or to correct information they may have input wrong or forgot to add on the FAFSA itself. Due to the setback, Iowa State’s typical timeline has been obstructed, and we have had to delay Award Letters and Aid Offers.
Timeline
Once we start receiving FASFA information for students who sent their FAFSA application to Iowa State, we have to process the information first. Then we can begin developing packages for Financial Aid for students. We hope to have Award Letters sent to incoming students by mid-late April with transfer and current students following early-mid May.
